The Chatham County Board of Assessors (BOA) is the agency charged with the responsibility of establishing the fair market value of property for ad valorem taxation purposes. Their appointment from the Board of Commissioners (BOC) are for fixed terms, as defined by law. In 2021, the Board of Assessors received the Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration (CEAA) designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), which recognizes governmental units and individuals involved with assessment that integrate best practices in the workplace. They become the second office in the state of Georgia to hold this prestigious designation, with their recognition that the CEAA aligns with their core principles.
